Late drama as Division One match is abandoned in final minute

THE Crewe Regional League Division One game between Nantwich Pirates and Cuddington FC was abandoned in the final minute at the weekend.

Nantwich took a 2-0 lead, only for Cuddington to battle back to move 3-2 ahead.

However, Pirates weren’t finished and after equalising, made it 4-3 in the last minute.

An altercatio­n then ensued, which saw a player from each side sent off... and Cuddington are reported to have declined to continue, leaving the referee with no option but to abandon the match.

Joey Hilton (2), Michael Truan and Keiron Jones scored for Nantwich, with Lewis Greenwood, Kyle Caudwell and Kyle Catterall replying for Cuddington.

AFC Talbot maintained their 100 per cent record with a 4-0 victory over Sandbach Town, with goals from Declan Scott (3) and Jack Gilbert.

Broadhurst FC are the other team in joint top position after they won 4-2 at White Horse with goals from Danny Griffiths (2), Dom Johnson and Mark Griffiths. Adam Smithies and Nick Gregory netted for The Horse.

Princes Feathers beat C&N United thanks to Jamie Cain (2) and Lewis Larkin. Tom Hayton scored for the visitors.

Sydney Arms beat new boys JS Bailey 5-2. Ben Reddock opened his account for the season with two goals. Rhys Potter, Chris Williams and Joe Benson also scored for Sydney. Liam Challinor and Luke White scored for JS Bailey.

In the Premier Division, newlypromo­ted The Raven had a commendabl­e 2-1 win at Betley, thanks to goals from Gary Pownall and Josh Wynne. Jamie Baker netted for Betley, who missed a penalty.

· SANDBACH Town beat Elworth Park Rangers 4-3 in the CREWE & DISTRICT LEAGUE.

Lee Wakefield (2), Jack Curwen and Ashley Morrey were on the scoresheet for Sandbach, with

James Husher, Connor Bird and Arron Clarke replying.

Sandbach Curshaws won 4-1 at Mary Dendy.

Bjorn Hughes bagged for the home side and for the visitors Darren Bailey,

Jordan Bickerton, Sam Critchley and Cameron Mitchell were on target.

In the other game, Adam

Grant scored twice as Crewe Town Jaguars beat Crewe Town Reserves 5-1 in their encounter.
