Food bank use still on the rise as appeal made for more vital goods

-

FOOD bank demand in Leek has shown an increase of

123 per cent on the same month last year, writes LES JACKSON.

Figures released by Leek and District Foodbank show that 94 people were helped during September.

This included 53 adults and 41 children.

The total number of meals served was 846 with a quantity of 1,923kg and with a value of £3,365.

Project coordinator Ian Smith said: “Once again, the main reason for food bank use is low income followed by benefit changes.

“If you are a donor we would like to thank you for your help and remind you that we can still accept your donations at the food bank on Tuesdays and Fridays between 10am and noon.

“Please ring the bell and maintain social distancing.
