A LEEK based building society has been named a top employer.

The way Leek United has cared for its employees during the Coronavirus crisis has been praised after the building society won a prestigious national award.

The society won the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise category at the annual People Management Awards, which are run by the globally recognised Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Judges said the society’s focus on its people and culture, including the way it has handled the Coronavirus crisis, was outstanding and made it one of the best award entries they had seen for many years.

In particular, they praised the way Leek United’s approach to its colleagues was evident “through virtually every page of business strategy and activity” and was “fundamental to lasting organisational success”.

After receiving the award at a specially adapted virtual awards ceremony, chief executive Andrew Healy said: “This prestigious award represents a wonderful recognition of all the hard work and sacrifice of our staff, particularly since the start of the pandemic.

“Their dedication and focus on maintaining support for customers has been terrific during such a challenging period for everyone, including of course our employees themselves and their families.”

The People Management Awards are the leading awards in the UK HR industry.
