SERIAL shoplifter Dean Eastlake has been jailed after brazenly helping himself to 13 bottles of shower gel.

The 30-year-old targeted the Boots store in Leek, where he was already known as he would pick up his prescriptions there.

Stoke-on-trent Crown Court heard he took the bottles off a shelf and stuffed them into a carrier bag at lunchtime on May 9.

Prosecutor Peter Mccartney said a member of staff approached him and he started to walk away.

“She shouted at him, ‘put that back’. He ignored her and left. She later identified him from the CCTV footage,” he added.

Now Eastlake, of Mill Street, Leek, has pleaded guilty to theft of items worth £38.45.

The court heard his already includes more 40 shoplifting or theft offences.

The defendant also admitted breaching a suspended sentence imposed in February for burglary and attempted burglary.

The conditions had included attending a thinking skills programme, which he has yet to do, and a 12-month drug rehabilitation requirement.

Mr Mccartney said: “He failed to show any motivation to stop using drugs.”

The breach means a 20-month prison sentence has now been triggered.

Eastlake has also been jailed for two months for the latest theft, which will run concurrently.

Rob Holt, mitigating, said the defendant has been taking steps to deal with his substance issues and has been engaging with a support service. record than
