Moorlands mum, 43, found dead in her bed
A 43-YEAR-OLD mum was found dead in bed at her home in Staffordshire Moorlands.
The emergency services were called after Jill Stewart’s family discovered her at her home in Churchill Road, Cheadle.
An inquest heard she had a high level of ethanol in her system and had also consumed a number of prescription drugs.
In the months leading up to her death, Mrs Stewart had been repeatedly admitted to hospital and had been complaining of abdominal pain.
On one occasion, she had also taken an overdose in front of a social worker who had been carrying out a safeguarding assessment.
Her family had become increasingly concerned for her welfare and the level of support she was receiving from mental health services. They were also worried as she was consuming as much as a litre of vodka a day.
The inquest was told that medics felt her primary need was to sort out her drinking problems and she was referred to the One Recovery service for advice.
Mrs Stewart had been making plans to attend the Edward Myers Unit before her death.
A mental health nurse with North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare, said her first direct contact with Mrs Stewart had been on June 9.
But in a statement, she outlined how Mrs Stewart had a ‘long history of contact with services’.
She had been diagnosed with anxiety and depression in the 1990s and also suffered from an obsessive compulsive disorder. Over the years, she received treatment at both the Ashcombe
Centre and Harplands Hospital.
The inquest heard she had also developed a pattern of misusing her medication.
Mr Barkley concluded it was an alcohol and prescription drug-related death.
