Work set to start on village parking controls

The time has come for the need to stop this parking and yellow lines will help says county councillor

WORK is set to start this summer on imposing parking restrictions on a busy village road.

In April 2019, First Buses diverted its services during busy school times through the Staffordshire Moorlands village of Kingsley.

The company made the decision after motorists began parking along sections of Holt Lane near St Werburgh’s C.E Primary School – including on a blind bend – which resulted in buses and cars having to drive on the wrong side of the road with no clear view ahead.

Following the move, Kingsley Parish Council have been in discussions with Staffordshire County Council and their county council representative, Councillor Mike Worthington, to look at imposing measures to safeguard the area at busy times.

At last week’s meeting of Kingsley Parish Council, Councillor Worthington informed parish councillors that the work on imposing parking restrictions along Holt Lane should be completed this summer.

He said: “Discussions and consultation have now taken place. Discussions have also been held with the bus company. I have received an email stating that work will be done in the second quarter of the financial year. I hope work should be completed by August.”

Some double yellow lines would be installed along with a stretch of single yellow lines. The single lines would be effective Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

Chairman of the parish council, Councillor Ken Unwin said: “A consultation plan has gone out to residents and the school, which the parish council supported.”

Following the announcement that work on Holt Lane is to take place councillors agreed to turn their attention to ongoing parking problems along the main A52 at The Green in Kingsley.

A few months ago it was brought to the parish council’s attention that cars were parking right up to the junction with Cheadle Road, which gave poor visibility to drivers entering the A52.

Countycouncillormikeworthington said: “A lot of discussions have taken place about Cheadle Road. What the parish council wants, I will support 100 per cent.

“On one occasion I saw cars parked opposite to Cheadle Road. It is dangerous. Time has come for the need to stop this parking and if there were yellow lines it would be an enforcement.”

Councillor John Steele said: “Work on Holt Lane is now going ahead. It is now time to look at parking along The Green.”

Councillor Unwin asked councillors to look at the scene before the next meeting of the parish council. He said: “This is not an easily resolved matter as there are too many vehicles.”

I have received an email stating that work will be done in the second quarter of the financial year Cllr Worthington
