Exciting new chapters for volunteers being offered by community library
CHEADLE’S Community Library is appealing for more volunteers - in order to increase the opening hours now shelf browsing and PC usage has resumed.
A spokesperson for the library said: “We have an excellent core of volunteers who kept the library open on reduced hours during the last lockdown, to deliver the foyer service.
“Unfortunately, at this stage we can’t increase our opening hours until we’re able to recruit more volunteers.”
More than 800 people already volunteer in libraries across Staffordshire, with 22 of those libraries being managed by volunteer groups. People of all ages volunteer for many reasons, examples include: Making new friends, developing skills and giving back to the community.
Volunteering can be incredibly rewarding - helping a number of people to combat mental health problems and prepare them to re-enter the workplace. Older people who have retired find that volunteering is a way to stay active while doing something they consider meaningful.
If you’re interested in signing up, but don’t feel that confident, no experience is necessary.
Training will be given by a mentor and volunteers always work in pairs, so there’s always someone there to help.
Volunteers for desk duties are needed the most, in order to build up the library opening hours. Soon, there will also be opportunities for people interested in becoming IT Buddies and helping with family history research.
The group would like to hear from anyone able to spare a few hours a week. They can be contacted by e-mail (cheadlelibraryvolunteers@gmail. com) and application forms can be collected from the library, or downloaded from the website (www.cheadlecommunitylibrary. org.uk).
The library opening hours are: Monday 1pm-5pm, Wednesday 9am-1pm and Friday 9am-1pm.
