Checkley 3rd XI edged out by Wedgwood in last ball drama

IN the NSSCL Division Seven game, Wedgwood bowler Mark Jones took a hat-trick on his way to a fivewicket haul in their thrilling victory at home against Checkley thirds.

Jones’ haul of 5-17, plus 3-26 from Gary Timmis, left Checkley all out for 115. Andrew Eccles top-scored with 26.

But Wedgwood were made to sweat in reply and although Tim Steele made 39, they only scrambled to a three-wicket win off the last ball. Jason Carrigan claimed 3-6.

Matters were more clear-cut at Sandbach where Rode Park & Lawton eased to the points.

Oliver Clarke’s 3-23, plus double strikes from Michael Hulme and Sam Hutchins, skittled Sandbach for 109, despite Jack Taylor making 42.

Paul Chadwick and Oliver Gallimore then made 50 and 39 respective­ly to complete an eightwicke­t win in quick time.

Ryan Cheetham took five wickets in Betley’s success at Newcastle & Hartshill thirds.

Cheetham’s 5-52 was key to Castle being limited to 72 all out.

Lewis Clarke (23) and 17 apiece from Luke Taylor and Ryan Stoneley, soon had Betley celebratin­g the win.

Onneley seconds impressed in their home encounter with Audley thirds.

Mark Knowles struck 85 not out, hitting 10 fours and two sixes, while Sohail Hussain weighed in with 50 and Ash Hall made 37, as Onneley amassed 235-7.

Billy Jones (57) shone after tea, but a miserly spell of 3-8 from eight overs by Adrian Baddeley limited Audley to 151-7.

Girl power was the key to Woore seconds’ NSSCL Division Eight win at Church Eaton seconds.

Chasing 211 for victory, Church Eaton were bowled out for just 56 Richard Pearce making 21 - thanks to the exploits of Amy Griffiths and

Lauren Kenvyn. Griffiths ended with 4-8, including a hat-trick, while Kenvyn took 4-25 to complete an easy win.

Kenvyn had earlier made 36 not out as Woore recovered from 82-7 to 210 all out.

Michael Griffiths (52) and Julian Mitchell (35) aided the comeback bid. Paul Brown and Michael Trayte took 4-28 and 3-35 respective­ly.

Cheadle thirds wasted little time in beating Porthill Park fifths.

Three wickets apiece from Matthew Degg (3-8) and Jamie Bratt (3-15) left Porthill Park 79 all out. Raj Bansal top-scored with 28.

Cheadle needed just 6.3 overs to complete a 10-wicket win as Sam Rushton blazed 49 not out and Degg struck an unbeaten 28.

Crewe seconds had a superb afternoon as they won at home against Hem Heath fourths.

Stuart Elsam’s 72 was backed up by Max Parry (48), Sam Carney (42) and Matthew King (31no) as Crewe amassed 238-6. scooped 3-26.

Hem Heath never got going in reply and were bowled out for 103 thanks to Parry (4-10) and Harry Edler (327).

Oakamoor thirds romped to a ninewicket triumph at home against Stafford fourths.

Elliot Jackson claimed 3-33 to unseat Stafford for 130, before Jonathan Wood (76no) took care of batting business.

In NSSCL Division Nine, Newcastle & Hartshill fourths won by three runs at Ashcombe Park thirds.

Mark Brown’s 38 was key to Castle reaching 127-7, an innings which saw James Lawton (3-5) and Rob Goodwin (3-22) take three wickets apiece.

Goodwin struck 38 in the chase, but Ashcombe Park were bowled out for 124 in the last over.

Rohan Vallabhane­ni (3-16) and Sudath Illerperum­a (3-23) did the damage.

Oakamoor fourths enjoyed a superb debut with a resounding win at Sandbach thirds.

James Wright’s 92 and 49 not out from Carl Allcock led Oakamoor to 219-5.

Callum Chambers made 30 after tea for Sandbach, but Ben Clarke (311) and Jack Day (3-25) dismissed them for 96.
