‘Can you confirm MIU is reopening?’

-

(open letter to Neil Carr CEO Midlands Partnership Foundation NHS Trust)

AT THE last District Council Health Scrutiny Panel meeting on March 3, you announced that the Leek Hospital Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) will reopen on June 26, subject to covid cases continuing to decline.

You announced that you have sufficient staff in place, and that the MIU will continue with all its previous services, including X-ray - which would be in operation during the whole of the opening hours – with the facility returning to its original opening hours of 8am to 8pm.

With the number of covid cases having fallen dramatically, will you now confirm to the Moorlands community that the MIU will reopen on June 26 – or earlier if possible?

The urgent reopening of the MIU is of major importance for the Moorlands.

The MIU has been closed for the last 12 months - forcing more than 1,000 sick and injured people every month to travel 10 miles to Haywood Hospital in Burslem.

These are people suffering injuries and distress, anxiety and isolation – and significant inconvenience and cost.

This is a matter of major public concern - we are therefore copying this letter to the Post & Times and would ask you to please copy your reply to the newspaper.
