Ashcombe Park are dumped out of the Talbot Cup by Burslem

ASH Shaw was in scintillat­ing all-round form to power Burslem into the second round of the Talbot Cup.

Burslem faced NSSCL Premier Division rivals Ashcombe Park in round one on Sunday - having beaten them in the league 24 hours’ earlier.

They completed a quickfire double over the Basford Bridge Lane club with a 10-wicket demolition in the cup.

Shaw, was at the forefront of their victory, taking 5-16 to dismiss Ashcombe Park for 73.

Tom Bason weighed in with 3-31, while Philip

Clowes top-scored with 31. Shaw, not content with his five-wicket haul, then blasted an unbeaten 35 and, along with Zen Malik’s 32 not out, completed victory in 8.2 overs.

Top-flight Longton swept past the challenge of Division One Leycett on their visit to Park Terrace.

Dan Redfern’s 10 was the only doublefigu­re score as Leycett succumbed to 57 all out, in which veteran paceman Shaun Rashid captured 5-7.

Tom Steele (27no) and Dan Ball (24) then guided Longton to an eightwicke­t victory.
