Leek bounce back to secure nine wicket win over Blythe

IN NSSCL Division Five Leek bounced back from that last week’s defeat by Woore to ease past Blythe by nine wickets at Highfield.

Joshua Woodcock led the way with 4-11 as Blythe were dismissed for just 82.

Luke Trafford and Joel Bayley helped themselves to a couple of wickets apiece, while Peter Finch’s 22 was the highlight from a Blythe batting perspective.

Matt Nicholls compiled 45 not out in reply and with Kieran Carr ending unbeaten on 23, it proved to be a comfortable afternoon for Leek’s second string.

Caverswall had an easy win at Little Stoke seconds... but had to show some powers of recovery.

Caverswall slipped to 77-6, but Evan Bradford and Chris Baranowski led a superb fightback.

Bradford made 86 not out, hitting 12 fours and two sixes, with Baranowski adding 80 - including six fours and five sixes - to mastermind Caverswall’s progress to 226-8.

James Mountain picked up 3-47 for Little Stoke.

The home side were always adrift of the required rate after tea, but Ben Gliddon made 58 not out to see them to 133-7 at the close.

Bradford and Jack Amison secured double strikes as Caverswall impressed.

Ashcombe Park seconds won by eight wickets at Meakins thirds. Chris Jenkins’ top haul of 4-11, allied to double strikes from Dan Sutton and Lee Slater, enabled Ashcombe Park to skittle their hosts for 71.

Hashim Rabi Ahmed top-scored with 23.

Nick Goodwin (19) and Joe Thompson (18) soon had the visitors heading home with the spoils.

Sandon sampled home comforts in their meeting with Whitmore.

Phil Talbot’s 40 not out, plus 29 from Andy Wootton, led Sandon to 172-8. Zakariya Zaheer (3-38) took the bowling honours for Whitmore.

Ranvir Singh (34) and Damian Billington (23) did their best to keep Whitmore’s hopes alive heading into the early evening.

But Mark Attwood’s 3-8, and 3-32 from David Abel, left the visitors on 129-8 when stumps were drawn.
