Leek Post & Times

‘Why are we letting town be dug up?’

-

I AGREE 100 per cent with Brian Thacker’s letter in the Post & Times of February 9.

All those points he underlined need to be reintroduced, they

should never have been removed in the first place by the daft muppets that were responsible for doing it.

Now on top of all these latest changes and increases to the council tax we have this damned gigabit super broadband being wired everywhere and a right mess the contractors are making of it, digging the pavements up yet again.

First it was nynex cable years ago which was a real flop, then we had all the upheaval of the dropped kerbs for the disabled that hardly any people seem to use anyway, then BT with their telephone routing then gas electric and water all making a mess everywhere with there pipe and cabling.

Now Leek seems to he one big set of roadworks.

When are we going to see several years of no roadworks at all in Leek?

Can’t the council say no, not now, leave it for a few years let’s get the town straight and neat?

But alas they have to buckle and let any utility company do what they like.

Why are the councillors actually allowing it?

Most of the people I have spoken to will not be even having this new gigabit broadband, good luck to those who do want it and pay extra on top of what they pay already but surely couldn’t all this be done a lot neater and simpler by satellite, or fasten the wires to existing telephone poles?

Leek has become one big static town, it’s hard to get around it as it is let alone having to put up with temporary lights everywhere you go.

It’s County Highways I’m sure who sit at Stafford making these silly daft decisions on what we do here.

It’s all wrong and needs better thought and organising and much stricter monitoring of what’s actually going on.
