Piva la difference for musicians
Postponed concert is coming to a Moorlands church next month
A CONCERT postponed at Christmas in a Moorlands village is to take place next week.
Nationally-renowned early music group Piva will be performing in All Saints Church at Dilhorne on Saturday, March 5 at 7.30pm and will be bringing some light to the end of the winter season.
This is a much anticipated event as their planned Christmas concert had to be postponed due to concerns over the spread of the Omicron Covid virus.
Eric Moulder, the group’s founder and musical director, said: “We are delighted that we now have the opportunity to play in Dilhorne after having to postpone our December concert.
“We had been so looking forward to performing our programme of Tudor songs and tunes celebrating the Christmas season.
“However, we have made a few substitutions and we have an equally varied programme of music that still has a winter theme.
“It is so good to be back playing with the band again and we have had great fun arranging the music for our six musicians and singers; whilst we play all over the country, there’s nothing like the welcome we get from our home audiences in the Moorlands!”
“For those that have seen PIVA before, people will know how we love to bring the past back to life with our music and stories,” said Jane Moulder, the group’s researcher and presenter.
“But whilst we are known for our Tudor music, we are also delighted to announce that we will be giving the first public performance of a piece of music by the renowned composer, Toby Young, that was commissioned especially for the group.
“This was a real honour for us and it’s fantastic that these ancient instruments can be used to play modern music.”
The concert will feature reproductions of period instruments, such as recorders, shawms, cornetto, bagpipes and viol.
The show is perfect for the whole family and the group hope to bring the past to life for this enjoyable concert.
Tickets for the December 18 concert have been automatically transferred to March 5, but there are still some tickets available.
Tickets can be bought online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/ allsaintsdilhorne as well as on the door on the night.
Formed in 2002, PIVA have firmly established themselves as one of this country’s leading early music ensembles.
Playing throughout the UK and Europe, they have gained a reputation for their lively performances and entertaining shows.
As well as specialising in popular dance and ballad music from the 16th century, they play a wide range of authentic period instruments such as shawms, curtals, bagpipes, hurdy gurdies and recorders.
The group members are all multiinstrumentalists with backgrounds in renaissance, classical and roots music; Piva melds their influences to create music of the past for today.
