Did credits reveal TV star’s farm is located in Moorlands?

Viewers left guessing on filming location spot The Roaches, Hen Cloud, and Shutlingsloe

FORMER Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher spent many years playing a farmer on the soap.

Now he has taken on the challenge in real life, having escaped to the country with his family.

Kelvin and his wife, Liz bought a 120-acre farm on the edge of the Peak District in the summer of 2020 – and they now have 20 sheep, three pigs and three alpacas.

The couple have been documenting their antics on the programme Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure, as they get to grips with the basics of agriculture.

The exact location of the farm has been a bit of a mystery as the national park actually encompasses five counties – Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.

However, keen ramblers would have no difficulty in working out exactly where the Fletchers’ farm is based.

The latest episode of the hit new BBC show revealed three big clues.

Aerial shots of the sprawling farm – including the closing credits – clearly showed Staffordshire’s most famous Peak District landmark – the rocky crag of the Roaches – in the background.

In episode three, the Fletchers took their two children, Marnie and Milo, for a camping holiday in a field he owns just a short distance from the farm.

For those with a keen eye, the mighty Hen Cloud just off the A53 between Leek and Buxton can be seen as they sit to watch the sunset in their ‘back garden.’

The final clue to the location of the farm is another iconic hill, as the majestic Shutlingsloe, near Wildboarclough and just south of Macclesfield Forest, can be spotted.

Otherwise known as the Cheshire Matterhorn, this impressive hill looks like a mini Swiss Alp when viewed from the north.

But in a clip, Shutlingsloe has the classic table-top look more akin to Cape Town’s Table Mountain, meaning that the farm must be situated to the south.

So now we know that the farm is somewhere close to the Staffordshirecheshire border. So where exactly is the Fletcher’s farm?

It is actually called Butterlands Farm and is located down a meandering drive on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Wincle – 312 metres above sea level, and just eight miles outside Leek

It’s a couple of miles from the otherworldly Lud’s Church, a 59ft-deep moss-covered chasm which was once a secret place of worship for people who would otherwise have been prosecuted in the 15th century, and a popular spot with hikers today.

The River Dane runs just west and south of the farm, while both Leek, Congleton and Buxton are all around nine miles away.

At this moment in time, viewers are unlikely to be able to visit the farm as it is not fully up and running.

The farm may continue to be private land, as it doubles up as the star’s home.

With this in mind, it seems fans will be unable to visit the location for some time.
