Mealey nets winner for CSOB in home victory...

LEEK CSOB made it three wins on the bounce as they eased to a 2-1 victory against Eastwood Hanley in the Staffordshire County Senior League on Saturday.

All the goals were scored in the first half at Pointon Park, with Jay Blurton opening the scoring just five minutes in.

Mohammed Hereka then equalised for Eastwood after 25 minutes, but George Mealey scored what proved to be the winner a minute before the break.

CSOB are now sixth in the SCSL Premier Division, still within touching distance of third place.

Ball Haye Green were without a fixture, but their reserves made it through in the Leek Cup with a penalty win over FC 41 reserves at Waterhouses.

BHG had to do it the hard way, playing for more than an hour with only 10 men after Lloyd Bridgwood saw red after just 27 minutes.

By that point, they were also 1-0 down thanks to Josh Swann’s strike for FC41, but Harry Boyle levelled three minutes after the sending off.

The 10 men were then ahead by the break as Harry Boyle made it two one.

However, they could not hold on for long after half-time, and Matthew Fern levelled the scores once more in the 56th minute.

With no further goals in open play, the match went to penalties, and much like the League Cup final at Wembley the following day, ended 11-10, on this occasion in BHG’S favour as they progressed to round three.

In Division Two, Cheadle Town reserves were beaten 1-0 at home to Brereton Social Development.
