No way through in a home draw

Leek Ladies 1XI Sutton Coldfield 1XI

-

Leek Ladies 1st XI played against Sutton Coldfield at home.

Eager to build on last week’s performance, Leek put the pressure on from the off, with constant hassling from forwards Alex Hemming and Lydia Murfin on the away side’s defence.

Matching this, Sutton Coldfield also pressed from the off, which made it harder to get the ball out from a 16-yard hit.

With good game management again, Leek recognised this quickly and used shorter passes between the midfield players Hazel Mycock, Jenny Evans and Millie Bradbury to the wing of Ella Bray, Grace Alcock and Alice Sellers, to transfer the ball from the back and away from pressure.

As the game went on the home side created some chances in the D, but were unlucky not to score.

The second half was quite tense, with both teams wanting to score. Leek remained level headed though and although under immense pressure, defenders Gemma Hurst, Katie James and Nicola Weallans ensured no goal was conceded.

The last 10 minutes of the game were tight, as a short corner was awarded for Sutton. Goalkeeper Rebecca Gough made some great consecutive saves meaning at the end of the match it was a 0-0 draw.

A PLAYER-OF-THE-MATCH performance from 13-yearold debutant Jess Wright was the only high point as Leek Ladies 4ths lost at Keele University.

Keele went 1-0 up early in the game but Leek held their own, with some fantastic passes between Emily Boulton and Tanya Petcova Leek scored a fantastic goal to tie 1-1.

Leek battled hard, with some fantastic runs up the wing by Sarah Turner Bradbury, Jess, and Kat Parry, but ended the first half with Keele having scored two more.

Nerea Ward-banner and Liv Lawley worked fantastically in the centre and on the left wing, managing to get the ball through the Keele strength up towards Boulton, with a second goal missed out on by Leek.

Keele managed to score twice more in the second half taking the score at the final whistle to 5-1.
