Plans put in place for hall extensions...
Trustees apply for improvements to busy centre
PLANS to build side extensions at a Staffordshire Moorlands village hall have been put forward.
A planning application has been submitted to the Peak District National Park by David Gordon on behalf of the trustees of Warslow Village Hall.
The hall, which holds many functions during the year, is located on the side of the B5053 road on the entrance to the village from the Onecote side.
The building also provides toilet facilities to walkers and tourists visiting the area during the year.
The application involves the erection of side extensions to the village hall to provide a covered/ramped wheelchair access and external secure equipment store to the right (South West) side and to provide an extension to the hall assembly room to the left (North East) side with repositioned oil tank and formation of fire escape doorway.
A planning statement in support of the application by private architectural practitioner and rural development consultant, Rob Ford of Leek, said: “The proposal is simply to erect two side extensions. To the right side rear it is required to erect a small extension to the building so as to provide an externally accessed store room and a covered area over the existing external entrance door to toilets.
“This area also includes the formation of a widened ramped access way so that persons who are ambulant disabled can access the toilets externally. The toilets are generally open for public use. The proposed extension to the left side rear is to provide an additional room to the rather cramped lounge licenced bar area. This room is also intended as a daytime meeting room for local organisations.
“The village hall as it stands is of traditional construction being of local stone walls with steeply pitched roof of Staffs Blue tiles. The extensions are proposed to be of the same construction.”
A decision is expected by planners at the Peak District National Park within the next eight weeks.
