BUTTERTON WI

AT TUESDAY, March 8’s WI meeting, the members gathered to model our hats that had been made and presented to the members of Butterton WI for Christmas by one of our members Lesley Atkins.

Lesley was thanked by all for her time, materials and generosity.

We also welcomed Bern Easterford, who described how the Emmet Technique worked.

It was a fascinating evening as Bern then proceeded to use some of the members as models.

The Emmet Technique is a gentle, effective, safe and easy way to apply muscle release therapy. It certainly had varying effects on everyone who volunteered to have a go.

The evening concluded with refreshments and a raffle.

SWYTHAMLEY WI

A SPECIAL meeting of our members was held at lunchtime on March 8 in the restaurant barn at Heaton House Farm.

Our AGM was held over a tasty lunch and the decision was made to dissolve the WI with 18 members having taken a unanimous decision by postal ballot.

Although this was naturally a sad occasion, as usual, the meeting was full of laughter and some black humour!

The Swythamley WI was founded in 1964 by Miriam Robinson, mother of Theresa Stubbs. The first meetings took place in what was then the school room of the Swythamley and Heaton Centre.

Our group will be getting together for one final time on April 12. By then we hope to have completed all the paperwork and sorted our archive.

WETLEY ROCKS WI

THE meeting began with the previous months meeting minutes being read by June our Vice President and signed by Pat.

Pat made announcement regarding the news from Stafford and the “Homes and Gardens” tickets.

An outing for “Afternoon Tea and a high dance” on VE Day was also discussed with members, tickets are £18.50 and money and names should be brought to the next meeting.

Once all the business was completed

Pat welcomed our speaker for the evening, Penny Wheat who gave a talk on Silversmithing.

The talk was entertaining and filled with stories which made us laugh. Penny kept the members engaged by asking questions in an informal and fun quiz type approach.

One of the things that made the talk so much fun was all the different areas you can get inspiration from regarding designs, whilst Penny focused on the craft of transforming silver into beautiful household and jewellery items the concepts were readily transferable to all crafts.

There was something for all the crafter to take away from talk in terms of where to look for inspiration.

After the talk and the round of thanks we settled down to some lovely refreshments and a good catch up.

June was busy seeing which members wanted to enter the individual classes at the leek show and taking names and the class they wanted to enter an item into. While June was busy collecting names, Jen took round further information regarding the menu and time of the afternoon tea.

As the evening drew to a close, Pat presented Lynn, our treasurer for many years, with a bouquet of flowers. Lynn is taking a hiatus from WI activities and we wanted to recognise her valuable contribution to the entire group and just how much we will miss her presence as a member, as well as her accountancy skills! After plenty of hugs goodbye and well wishes we drew the meeting to a close.

We look forwards to welcoming Sue Robinson on April 12 for a talk on Card Making at 7.30pm in Wetley Rocks Village Hall.
