Old Boys pegged back by Walsall

-

LEEK CSOB missed the chance to claim third spot in the Staffordshire County Senior League Premier Division after a 2-2 draw with fellow high-flyers Walsall Phoenix.

The Old Boys would have moved above Redgate Clayton with victory at the Alridge Stick and Wicket Club, but a Romano Graham brace dented those hopes.

Jacques Rushton and George Mealey had scored twice in the space of six second-half minutes to give the visitors hope of a win.

Ball Haye Green picked up backto-back 2-1 wins last week as they saw off first Buxton FC and then Ashbourne at Pointon Park.

Against Buxton, Alexander Cimino’s 90th-minute winner saw them to the three points, despite a red card for Sam Hayes earlier in the match.

On Saturday, Ball Haye took an early lead from the spot thanks to Harry Flower.

They were pegged back by Ashbourne, but Ollie Mellor, pictured right, grabbed what proved to be the winner in the 32nd minute.

Cheadle Town are through to the next round of the Macron Cup after a 3-2 victory over Brereton Social, while BHG reserves had a walkover victory in the Leek Cup third round.

In the Chairman’s Challenge Cup, Cheadle Town reserves progressed 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Wyrley reserves.

Adam Prosser for Wyrley and Cameron Waltho for Cheadle shared the goals in normal time.
