Awards are handed out at club’s annual presentation
LEEK Tennis Club held their annual Presentation Evening on February 26, which also included pie and peas and a race night fundraiser.
Several awards were given out during the evening by the Chairman, Frank Murray including the following:
Men’s Singles: Alex Cimino
Women’s Singles: Caroline Green
Women’s Doubles: Caroline Green and Janet Hardern
Mixed Doubles: Caroline Green and Bruce Bradshaw
100+ Men’s: Ian Sales and Mick Fern
100+ Women’s: Caroline Green and Janet Hardern
Richard Edwards Memorial Tournament: Ian Sales and Niall Edwards
Teams Player of the Year (Senior): Dave Williamson
Teams Player of the Year (Junior): Toby Gayes
Clubman of the Year: Bruce Bradshaw
Trustee, Joan Bennett, also presented the following Junior awards:
Most Promising Male Junior: Noah Eaton
Most Promising Female Junior: Grace Alcock
A club event is being held on April 30, between 10am and 2pm, which will include junior coaching, various tennis activities such as speed gun and ball machine, table tennis, and other opportunities to socialise with other members of the club.
Both members and nonmembers are welcome to attend.
April also sees the beginning of the inter-club league competitions.
On the back of a promising 2021, where both the Men’s and Women’s A Teams won their respective leagues, Leek Tennis Club are entering teams in both the City and Suburban Tennis League and Staffordshire Inter-club Tennis League.
Leek shall be entering four men’s teams and one ladies team for the upcoming 2022 season. The tennis club has been providing tennis coaching in multiple local schools, which gives pupils the opportunity to be introduced to tennis and the benefits that the sport can bring.
In particular, Leek Tennis Club has been sending the club coach to Beresford First School on a weekly basis.
