LEEK Town Ladies continued their fantastic form on Sunday, dominating the contest against Burton Albion to make it seven matches without tasting defeat.

The Blues netted four times, twice either side of the interval, as their pursuit for the top four got stronger yet again.

After much deliberation between themselves, it was decided that the strikes came courtesy of Katie Gibbons, Naomi Salehancock, Katie Maya and Mollie Garner.

The hosts came out of the blocks flying, creating an array of opportunities, the best of which came from Cassie Hyde, who gained possession following a clever dummy from

Maya, and let fire. Albion shotstopper Alice Langstone was equal to the effort, but it was a sign of what was to come.

Overall, the first 25 minutes proved a frustrating watch; while build-up play was positive, the final ball was lacking.

However, all it took was one of them to stick, and the floodgates soon opened.

Gibbons broke the deadlock and took the pressure off Leek shoulders.

Shannon Weston started an electric counter-attack, passing to forward Maya, who performed a fancy flick that found Mollie Garner.

Garner proceeded to float the ball into the back post and tricky winger Gibbons squeezed home her tenth goal of the campaign.

Confidence was now in full flow and Leek were frequently in behind the Burton backline.

The excessive pressure soon bore fruit, as Leek doubled their advantage.

The goal came from a setpiece and will most likely be claimed by captain Salehancock, who capitalised on Langstone’s mistake.

After half time, the Blues continued their onslaught.

Mollie Garner fizzed a cross into the path of the Burton centre-half, who could not help but deflect into her own net.

Just three minutes later came the best of the bunch, and from who else but top goalscorer Maya.

She picked up possession from a goal kick that went astray, danced past two Albion defenders and poked home her 13th strike this term to put Leek firmly in the driving seat.

Next up is the big one as Leek take on Stoke City in the final of the County Cup.
