School to host sports evening for clubs looking for new talent

-

A LEEK school is to host its first ever sports evening, with local rugby, football and cricket clubs among those hoping to attract new players.

Churnet View Middle School, which has more than 450 pupils, has a PE department which prides itself on delivering a full and comprehensive curriculum covers many sports.

Head of physical education Ollie Simpson said: “We are really excited to be hosting our first ever sports evening.

“We have pupils at our school, and also in the Leek area who have lots of sporting potential and hopefully by pointing them in the right direction to local clubs will help the pupils to further their sporting development, especially with the benefits, physically, mentally and socially.

“While we understand our primary objective for pupils is to enhance their education when in school, we would like to provide a pathway for pupils to participate in sport outside of school.

“We have some extremely talented pupils who just require some guidance and a chance to shine!

“We feel that this is a key component to understand the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle which leads to involvement in lifelong participation in sporting activity.

“Many of our pupils are motivated, skilled and enthusiastic in sport and we feel we would like to direct them to a local sports club so their learning could be extended further. We hope to run the event similar to that of a university freshers fair, where each local club would be provided with a table which they can promote their club and have the possibility of pupils signing up or even just give further information parents can take away.

“We have the Leek Town

FC , Leek Cricket Club, Leek Rugby Club already signed up.”

The evening will run on Thursday, May 26 between 6.00pm and 7.30pm.
