He may be full of mischief, but Andy needs a new home

Margaret Russell, secretary of CHEADLE ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY, updates us and highlights some pets who are looking for a new home...

COMING into our care last week was a small grey tabby who had been found in someone’s cellar, with one live kitten and two who had unfortunately passed away.

The little cat, who we have called Meredith, was in distress so was taken to Lime Trees Veterinary Hospital where an emergency caesarean was carried out saving the life of the one remaining kitten. Meredith now has two healthy little kittens who are doing well.

We have called the brother and sister Barbie and Ken. Meredith is a very good mum and will soon be off to a lovely foster home to rear her babies in peace.

The tickets for our Stringers and Ringers Concert at the Guild Hall, Cheadle on Friday April 19, starting at 7pm, are now on sale at Kenral, High Street, Cheadle and also at Cross Street Pet Shop in Cheadle. Alternatively you can ring 01335 390369. The tickets cost just £7 each.

The Stringers are the UKE3A Ukelele Group and the Ringers are the Alton Handbell Ringers, and believe me between them they will provide a wonderful evening of entertainment. I do hope you’ll be able to come along. The number of tickets is limited, so don’t leave it too long, as once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Please join us at the Girl Guides’ Spring Fair at the Guild Hall, Cheadle on Saturday March 9. The doors will be open from 10am – 1pm. We have a stall with good quality bric-a-brac and our popular Pick-a-card games – one for children and one for adults.

There will be other charity stalls as well as craft stalls, refreshments and a raffle. Hope to see you there.

Also coming into our care last week was a young black and white tomcat whose owner had sadly died and he was passed onto a family member who didn’t want him. He is now safely in care. He has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given worm and flea treatments and is recovering well He will soon be up for adoption.

Just a thought, but it would help in situations like this if you could make sure that provision is made for the care of your pets once you are no longer able to care for them.

A reminder that as from June 10 2024 it will become mandatory for all cats to be microchipped. If your cat is found without a microchip you will have 21 days to get it chipped or face a fine of £500.

We still have several cats waiting patiently for new homes. Daphne is a very pretty tabby who has now been spayed and is eager to find a new home with people who will love her to bits and give her lots of fuss and attention.

Leo is a wonderful black and white tom. He enjoys sitting on your lap so will make someone a fabulous companion. Myrtle is a silver tabby and is a shy young girl, but that’s because she’s in the cattery. She just needs to find a quiet home with people who will be calm and gentle.

Andy is black and white and was born in October 2023. He’s full of mischief and needs a home where he can have some fun. Maisie is grey and white and is an older lady. She would love to find a retirement home where she can enjoy going outside and then returning to a warm cosy bed.

You will find details about all of the cats and dogs in our care on our website. Take a look: www. cheadleanimalwelfare.org.uk

We are still on the lookout for items which you may have and which you don’t really want, and would like to donate to help our Waifs and Strays. We would particularly like items which would be suitable as tombola prizes, eg: toiletries or small gifts. Any items which you are prepared to donate can be left at Cross Street Pet Stores, Cheadle, or you can ring 01335 390369 so that, if possible we can arrange collection.
