FAMILIAR faces have taken over a sports pub, and have already started making brilliant changes to the venue.

Neil Capewell and partner Nicola Preston have had the bar redone and are hoping to introduce food in the future at the Prince of Wales in Leek.

The couple, who took over on February 21 this year, are also landlord and lady to the Rose and Crown in Biddulph Moor, and decided to expand their venture to Leek. So far, business has been great at the Fernwood Drive boozer according to the pair.

They are hoping to turn the former sports pub into a community hub for families to enjoy - including dogs. Food such as pizzas, and themed nights such as steak nights will be introduced, with plans for Sunday dinners, too.

Neil said: “We wanted to expand and have another pub. Everyone who’s come in has been lovely - everybody loves us. We’ve been really busy so far.

“We’ll be introducing food and making it into a community pub. We’re planning a fun day to fund refurbing the park next door, which Staffordshire Moorland District Council approves of.

“Our other pub is a community pub, so we want to do the same with this one and give something back to the customers. We’ve got a couple of regulars who come in at night time, so we often keep open for them as they don’t like coming in during the day.

“We’ve had some new beers in, and we’ve got a pool table with four pool teams, and we’ve got two darts teams as well, We’ve got Sky sports put in as well on the TVS, so people can still enjoy sports, we just won’t be based on sports like it used to be.

“We want to give it a good go, whereas I think most people haven’t done much with the pub and given it a chance. We’ve got a guy who goes to both our pubs, which is really nice.”

The Prince of Wales is open Monday to Friday from 3pm until 11.30pm, on Saturdays from midday until 11.30pm, and on Sundays from midday until 10.30pm.
