ALLEGATION OF ‘PREDATORY BEHAVIOUR’

- By ROD MALCOLM

A POLICE officer is on trial accused of sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl in his car.

Majud Hussain (40), an officer with Leicestershire Police, is alleged to have offered the girl a phone charger in return for a sexual act.

She refused, but he carried out a sexual act on her, Rebecca Herbert, prosecuting, told Nottingham Crown Court.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at 3.30am on July 16 last year after he had picked up the 17-year-old and a 14-year-old.

Hussain of Wilford Crescent East, Nottingham, denies four charges of sexual assault on the 17-year-old near Stapleford, Nottinghamshire.

The trial continues.

A POLICE officer sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl in his car after claiming to be a fireman called Matt, a jury has been told.

The teenager was the third girl picked up that night by Majud Hussain (40), who had just finished a shift, it was claimed.

The first girl had allegedly stepped out of a nightclub in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, and into his red car, mistaking it for a taxi.

Hussain asked for her age and phone number, saying he wanted to take her out, said Rebecca Herbert, prosecuting.

“She was frightened and didn’t know what to do,” said Miss Herbert.

“She gave him the number because she was afraid not to. He said he was a fireman called Matt.”

The jury was told when the car stopped, Hussain kissed the girl on the lips and later sent a text saying: “It’s Matt, XX. Bell me tomorrow.”

Later on July 16 last year, he met two girls, aged 14 and 17, at 3.30am.

He took them to McDonald’s before driving the younger one home, briefly talking to her mother and saying he was, “Matt and he was a fireman,” said Miss Herbert.

He had left the other girl in the car and, when he returned, leaned into the back seat, where he touched her thigh and a hand, it was claimed.

The girl’s mobile phone was nearly flat and she asked to be taken home, the jury was told.

Hussain offered to get her a phone charger in exchange for a sexual favour, it was claimed. She refused, but he carried out a sexual act on her, said Miss Herbert. Moments later, he gave her “a lecture”, saying she should not agree to a sex act if she did not want to take part, the court heard.

As she outlined the case at Nottingham Crown Court, Miss Herbert said: “This case is about a wolf in sheep’s clothing, about a vulnerable teenager who fell victim to the predatory behaviour of a man whose job is to help.

“This defendant is a serving police officer who went looking for sex with young girls.

“This is a man who had done a shift as a firearms officer, protecting the public, who had no intention of going home to his family that night.”

Miss Herbert said when Hussain was questioned by police, he said they must have misheard his nickname, “Maj”, and also misunderstood him when telling them he was “a firearms officer”.
