Road shut due to man on bridge

A LONG stretch of a main road was closed for almost an hour after a man was spotted on a bridge over it.

Police shut the A4303 Lutterworth Road, in Lutterworth, shortly before 5pm on Sunday.

The man came down from the bridge about an hour later and was taken into custody.

The closure had caused significant tailbacks.

A police spokesman said: “We received a call at 2.45pm regarding a report of concern for the welfare of a man on a bridge on the A4303, Lutterworth Road.

“In order to make the area safe, a decision was made to close a number of roads in the area.

“Shortly before 5.45pm the man came down and was detained by police.”
