FRIDAY The Handlebard­s, Romeo and Juliet - The Guildhall, Leicester

The HandleBard­s are the world’s first cycling theatre company.

Before touring their “seriously silly” production of Romeo and Juliet around the world, they pedalled it 1,500 miles around the UK by bicycle, with all the necessary set, props and costume in tow.

Now, the show is back by popular demand. On the day price, £17, children under-16: £10.

May The Toys Be With You opening day - New Walk Museum, Leicester

A Star Wars exhibition is opening right here in Leicester – and entry is free. Plus, on the opening day, there will be lots of related activities to enjoy.

May The Toys Be With You is both a celebratio­n of the now highly-collectabl­e vintage toy line and also of the iconic design work and art of the Star Wars movies.

From X-Wing Fighters to lightsaber­s, these fantastica­l designs have fired our imaginatio­ns and stamped their place on our cultural landscape. For little kids and big kids alike this is an unmissable opportunit­y to view many rarely seen Star Wars treasures, and young Jedi may even have an opportunit­y to dress up and wield a lightsaber themselves. 11am to 5pm.

SATURDAY Happy Holidays! Newarke Houses Museum, Leicester

Children can add their artwork to the seaside wall mural or try their hand at the seaside-themed glass painting activity at this free, drop-in event.

Refreshmen­ts available and it runs from 11am to 3pm.

SUNDAY Gorgeous Grandma Day - Winstanley House, Leicester

Celebrate Gorgeous Grandma Day at Winstanley House with an afternoon tea devoted to gorgeous grannies, nanas, nannies and grandmas.

On arrival, all guests will be welcomed with a peach bellini before being led through to one of the beautiful ballrooms.

Grandmas will then be pampered by the Spa Fairies and the entire party can enjoy an afternoon tea including homemade scones with preserves and clotted cream, Victoria sponge, Viennese swirls, red velvet cupcakes and a selection of finger sandwiches, as well as a choice of specialist teas and coffees

Grandmas can choose a 15-minute deluxe hand massage with a soothing cream or a hand massage with nails painted in a colour of their choice. Booking is essential.

Shepshed Watermill, Shepshed, near Loughborou­gh

Here’s your chance to explore Shepshed Watermill, which dates back to the 18th century.

The machine floor consists of a vertical pit wheel driving the horizontal line shafts which, in turn, drive the stone nuts to the four sets of millstones.

The pit wheel also drives a pulley to the first floor, which provides power to the sack hoist and dressing machine.

The controls for starting and stopping the waterwheel are also located in the machine floor. 11.30am 4.30pm.

Hackney Colliery Band Speakeasy Picnic - Shearsby Bath, Shearsby

Hackney Colliery Band have had a phenomenal few years, including playing a 45-minute set at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics and sets at the MOBO,

Brit and Mercury Awards to live sessions on BBC Two, BBC Radio 2, Jazz FM (UK) and worldwide airplay from many more.

They’ve also collaborat­ed with the likes of Amy Winehouse and Jamie Cullum and sold out clubs across Europe.

The event will have a festival vibe, with stalls for food and drink.

Bring a blanket and sit back and enjoy this summer musical picnic. Begins 2pm.
