Now we’re cooking on gas... eatery to open soon

-

RESTAURANT Mowgli is set to open its doors just over a month later than planned.

The St Martin’s Square eatery was originally due to open on August 12, but there was a delay in the gas being connected.

The problem has been fixed and the restaurant will open on Monday, September 16.

Mowgli focuses on serving the kind of food Indians eat at home and on their streets – food that is healthy, often vegan.

The brand was founded in Liverpool in 2014 by Nisha Katona – who was made an MBE for her services to the food industry in the New Year Honours list this year.

The self-described curry evangelist gave up her 20-year career as a full-time barrister to realise her dream of establishing an eatery serving food Indians really eat.

Mowgli now operates two sites in its home city of Liverpool, and two in Manchester, alongside restaurants in Birmingham, Nottingham, Oxford and Sheffield.

Talking to the Mercury about the Leicester branch, Nisha said: “Leicester was the place to which we travelled on a family day out to buy bright plastic mugs, mad floral melamine plates, spices, incense and Indian vegetables.

“It was the bright lights, big city in terms of Indian food.

“We will be opening in the most perfectly Mowgli-esque St Martin’s Square amid the pretty Leicester lanes. It is exactly what we look for in a city: quirky, cool, Bohemian and full of foodie thrill-seekers.”

The Leicester restaurant is at 10-12 St Martin’s Square.
