BEST OF THE REST
PAUL O’GRADY’S LITTLE HEROES ITV, 8.30pm
PAUL O’Grady has many strings to his bow, recently adding ‘children’s ward entertainer’ to his repertoire.
This is his second stint at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he meets the brave children being treated there and the heroic staff taking care of them.
It’s an emotional series but one that manages to be upbeat throughout, despite some heartbreaking stories.
That’s largely thanks to Paul’s trademark humour and compassion that sees him get stuck into everything from playing patient to kids to helping out in the kitchen.
In this first episode, Paul meets five-year-old Daniel who has been unable to walk since banging his knee while playing. He has been diagnosed with a rare form of arthritis.
He also meets 14-year-old Reagan who has scoliosis and has to wear a body brace for 20 hours a day before an op to straighten her spine. “I just want to be normal,” she says.
“These children are so courageous,” says Paul.
JESY NELSON: ODD ONE OUT BBC1, 9pm
WHEN Little Mix star Jesy Nelson first shot to fame in the X Factor-made pop band in 2011, she was immediately singled out – and not for the right reasons.
Labelled ‘the fat one’ or ‘the ugly one’, Jesy was abused by online trolls so much that at one point she tried to take her own life.
In this intimate documentary, Jesy opens up about the devastating effect cyberbullies had on her mental health as she goes on a journey of rehabilitation.
Her fellow Little Mix members Perrie, Leigh-Anne and Jade discuss how 28-year-old Jesy’s torment affected dynamics within the band and the group’s ability to perform.
Jesy’s boyfriend, Love Island star Chris Hughes, talks about falling for someone who was clearly damaged by a barrage of negativity, while members of her family also help her to confront her feelings.
And Jesy meets other victims of cyber abuse, who share horrendous stories of online trolling.
