LIGHTNING bolts might not sound like a good thing for the crowds at Leicester’s biggest annual fireworks and bonfire event, but they are guaranteed to be a highlight of the show.

The Abbey Park Fireworks Display, on Saturday, November, will feature for the first time a performer shooting million-volt bolts of lightning from his body.

The Lords of Lightning involves a performer crackling bolts of electricity while balancing on a podium.

During the Frequency Rider show, the performer will also control music frequencies via a Tesla coil – a type of electrical transformer circuit.

It is the first time the company has appeared live at the event.

Two Lords of Lightning shows will take place, at 6.35pm and 7.50pm.

Deputy mayor for culture, leisure and sport, Councillor Piara Singh Clair, said: “The Lords of Lightning show is a fantastic addition to this year’s Abbey Park Bonfire and Firework Display and is something completely new for the event.

“It is part of a programme of familyfriendly activities and attractions taking place throughout the evening, which really does promise something for everyone.”

Advance tickets are now available from the De Montfort Hall website, costing £6 for adults, £4 for under-16s and other concessions.

Family tickets for up to two adults and two children cost £16, and children under four get in free.

Tickets on the gate cost £8 for adults, and £5.50 for under-16s and other concessions.

No family tickets will available for sale on the gate.

The deadline to buy tickets online is Wednesday, 30 October, after which tickets must be bought in person at the Visit Leicester shop in Gallowtree Gate.
