Jake’s Progress: Successful summer for Croshaw

-

TEENAGER Jake Croshaw (Longcliffe) is back at university in the USA after a highly successful golfing summer back at home.

Crowshaw turned 19 in late August, just after he won the county boys’ title and shortly before starting his first term at Harding University, in Arkansas, where he is in his second year of a four-year accountancy course.

While he was at home, he won the Leicester Mercury Scratch Cup at Kirby Muxloe GC with his threeunder-par 67 card, and after qualifying at the county championship at Luffenham Heath for the match-play, claimed the coveted Phillip R Wykes Bowl at Glen Gorse.

In the match-play final, Croshaw beat county vice-captain James Billingham (Cosby), who was chasing a hat-trick of success in this championship.

Croshaw said: “Until this summer I had played only for the county men’s second team. But after playing for them against Northamptonshire, I was selected for two county Anglian League first team matches, so I was very pleased.

“Of course, I was also delighted to become county men’s match-play champion soon after my success in the Mercury Scratch Cup.

“I have cut my handicap, too. I was playing off 1.3 when I came back from the States for my holiday and now I am down to plus-one.

I feel I have played well and have enjoyed the progress I have made at club and county levels.

“In the last few weeks here. I played in the Longcliffe GC county inter-club Scratch League team and also made my debut in the county golf union’s Leicestershire Fox 36-holes championship. So overall, it was pretty busy – and successful – over the summer months.

“Although the studying is hard in America, I am enjoying university life there and hope to continue to play well when I go back. I have been very pleased with how things have gone for me this summer and aim to build on that now for the future.

“I plan to come back home again for Christmas.”
