Sam’s song for ‘a brave little soldier’

- By BEN ECCLESTON

X FACTOR winner Sam Bailey has sung for a terminally-ill boy at his home.

This week, eight-year-old Bailey’s mum Charlotte Nixon appealed for people to come and sing for the musicloving youngster, who doesn’t have long to live.

The appeal was shared across the country, leading to a number of offers to help the Nuneaton youngster.

The singer, who lives in Leicester and claimed the X Factor crown in 2013, visited the family’s home on Thursday to sing to him.

Charlotte, 34, posted the picture of Sam smiling while singing to young Bailey, who was born with a life-limiting brain condition which has led to epilepsy, severe gut issues, dystonia and global developmental delay.

Sam Bailey herself posted on Twitter afterwards saying: “I’ve just been to see Bailey and his wonderful family! What a brave little soldier he is and his family... wow!

“So much love in the room.

“I was told of many happy memories and stories! I’ve no words to how I feel when leaving... only that I feel blessed to have met them x.” Sam immediately responded to the appeal and knew she had to do something to help out the Nixon family.

Speaking before she visited Bailey, Sam said: “I kept getting tagged in the article. The minute I read it, I knew I had to do something to help, just looking at the picture in the article, it is heartbreaking.”

The appeal for musicians for Bailey has been shared hundreds of times on social media.

“Bailey has always loved music and responded so well to it, he had the most infectious laugh when hearing music and his right leg would always bounce to the beat,” the mum-of-two explained. “Bailey now cannot be moved out of the house due to his deterioration so he would need ‘music therapy’ at home. He loves the sound of a guitar and some gentle singing.

“He has his own team of very experienced professionals who are now all on standby any day for him to gain his angel’s wings. As a mum I am completely helpless and there is nothing more I can do for him however, knowing how much he loves music this is the last thing I can do for him.”
