Head of Freemasons in two counties retires
THE Head of Freemasonry in Leicestershire and Rutland has retired after nearly 10 years in the role.
David Hagger’s responsibilities covered 11 Masonic centres across the two counties, and nearly 3,000 Masons.
A spokesman said events were organised during his last month in the post to ensure David’s work was recognised by all those who have benefited.
They included the unveiling of a large portrait that is to hang in the Holmes Lodge room at the headquarters of Freemasonry in Leicester, and the presentation of a silver salver at a dinner in his honour that was attended by many of his friends from 47 years as a Freemason.
The retiring Provincial Grand Master took up the post in 2010, and during his time has overseen more than £1 million being donated to charities.
David has also been instrumental in funding projects, such as joint ventures to establish the Memorial Wood in Bradgate Park, and a donation of £50,000 towards the Multifunctional room at Leicester University’s Centre for Medicine, the spokesman said.
A retired solicitor from Leicester, David became a Freemason in 1972 and
