Oakham hockey pair earn call-ups to England squads
TWO talented hockey players from Oakham School have been selected for their England national age group squads.
Becca Malyon and Tilly O’Brien were invited to attend the England assessment camps for the under-18 and under-16 teams following their outstanding performances for the U17 and U16 Pennine Pumas teams at the Futures Cup competition, held in St Albans in August.
The girls’ impressive hockey skills then saw them earn their calls into the England squads.
Oakham’s director of hockey, James Bateman, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the girls’ achievement and am so proud of them.
“This is a fabulous opportunity for them to realise their potential and continue their development alongside the best junior players in the country.”
The girls will now join up with the squads for their first training weekend on November 24.
Their success continues the school’s excellent record of pupils joining the England Hockey Player Pathway programme, and the girls will be following in the footsteps of
Old Oakhamians and England players Matt Ramshaw, Ali Eatch, Maddie Pearce, Lucas Ward and
Alice Huddlestone.
