Odds cut on Vardy to win player award

-

LEICESTER City frontman Jamie Vardy is being heavily backed to be named the PFA player of the year.

Ahead of the season, Vardy was a whopping 100/1 long shot with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah all well ahead.

But the City talisman’s excellent form to start the season has seen his odds slashed to just 10/1.

Vardy is currently the Premier League’s leading scorer with 11 goals from 12 games.

The City veteran has been almost unstoppable since Brendan Rodgers arrived at the King Power Stadium in February, and his electric form has seen a spate of bets placed on him this week. That has seen Vardy’s price shortened to make him third favourite behind Kevin de Bruyne (9/2) and Raheem Sterling (6/1). Liverpool’s Sadio Mane (16/1), Virgil van Dijk (20/1) and Mo Salah (20/1) are all now behind Vardy.

Vardy has the best conversion rate (44 per cent) of any player in Europe’s top five leagues who has scored five or more this season.
