Pupils help plant trees in honour of Sikh Guru
CHILDREN from a Punjabi class at a county Gurdwara have planted 30 trees in honour of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
With the support of Charnwood Borough Council, the tree planting in Loughborough was part of a global initiative by Eco-Sikh to plant one million trees around the world to mark the 550th anniversary of the birth of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Children from the Punjabi class at Loughborough Gurdwara have planted 30 trees at Charnwood Water.
The planting was supervised by Peter Sihota from the Gurdwara in
Clarence Street and the borough council.
Charnwood ranger service tweeted: “Many thanks to the people of Gurdwara Sahib temple, Loughborough, for all your hard work today planting trees.”
The global idea is to create awareness among Sikh youth about environmental issues, in line with Guru Nanak’s teachings.
Through the Million Tree Project, Sikhs around the world aim to plant new saplings as their “gift to the entire planet” in a bid to reverse the effects of environmental degradation.
