We’re deli impressed by Just So Italian

-

It’s pot luck which variety of the traditional Italian doughnut is available – sometimes it is vanilla custard, sometimes it is chocolate hazelnut. When I visited it was the latter, and it was very good indeed.

The doughnut tasted light and fresh and deliciously sweet, and the chocolatey centre was a real treat (very much like Nutella, which I love).

I also enjoyed a superb cappuccino (£2.70) which, like all of the coffee here, is made with beans from Italian coffee producer Saccari, which is based in Danilo’s home village in Italy.

If you’re impressed by the taste of the coffee, you can also buy bags to take home with you.

In addition to coffee, tea and soft drinks, there are alcoholic beverages on the menu, including Prosecco, Italian wines, Aperol Spritz, Peroni, Limoncello and Grappa.

Verdict

Just So Italian is a very welcome addition to St Martin’s Square, and indeed to Leicester. Since the demise of Delilah, we’ve been missing a deli in the city centre, and this has filled the void, with an impressive range of authentic Italian foods, about which the staff, and in particular co-owner Danilo, are very knowledgeable.

I thoroughly enjoyed my food and drink, and given the quality of the ingredients, I reckon the prices are fair.

The friendly and efficient service and the charming surroundings also help to make Just So Italian a great place to visit.
