The university added: “The proposed development assists in providing opportunities for increased participation in sport among the student community, improving health and the development of sporting skills.

“The provision of floodlighting has the potential to extend the playing time for training sessions and matches and releases some pressure on the calendar and intensity of use of existing pitches.

“The proposed location is considered to be the most suitable, and the proposals have due regard to conserving the natural environment, visual amenity and limiting the impact on surrounding residential amenity.”

LEICESTER has been chosen as the location for a centre providing diaspora enrolment services for Nigerians living in the UK and in particular the 2,000 Nigerian nationals living in the East Midlands.

The enrolment centre, run by VFS Global, issues National Identification Numbers (NIN) to Nigerian diaspora. The NIN is important for Nigerian nationals living in the UK as it is a unique number issued to Nigerian citizens and is used for processing all forms of transactions that involves submitting identity verification in Nigeria. This includes opening a bank account, obtaining a voter’s card or getting a driving licence.

The centre is at the Peepul’s Centre on Orchardson Avenue.

Leicester has been selected as about 2,000 Nigerian nationals live in the East Midlands – one of the highest proportions in the UK outside London. The centre supports the initiative by Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission to enrol Nigerian adults and children into its National Identity Database (NIDB).

Jiten Vyas, of VFS Global, said: “The launch of our new NIN enrolment centre in Leicester highlights our efforts to offer solutions that ensure a secure and seamless experience in the Identity and Citizen Services space globally.”
