A MAN suffered cuts to his face and hands after he was chased and attacked by three youths armed with a knife.

The attackers, who were wearing balaclavas, punched and kicked the 35-year-old to the ground in a field in Countesthorpe before taking his wallet.

At least some of his knife injuries were sustained as he held his arms up to protect himself, police said.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the attack, which happened near Jubilee Way between

4pm and 4.45pm on Wednesday last week.

The man was walking alone when he became aware of someone walking behind.

As he walked through a gated area, he was confronted by the masked men.

One of them demanded the victim’s property before he managed to run off.

In a statement, the force said: “The victim was chased to a wooded area close to Hospital Lane, where he was kicked to the ground and punched several times.

“The victim was assaulted with a knife and sustained a number of superficial cuts to his face, body and hands

as he tried to defend himself during the assault.

“The victim managed to punch one of the suspects during the incident, so there is a possibility he may have been left with an injury to his face.” The three men, who are thought to be aged between 16 and 21, ran off with the man’s wallet, which was found later.

Two of the men are slim, with one of them approximately 6ft and the other about 5ft 8in.

The man the victim managed to punch is chubby and about 5ft 8in. Pc Glenn Spencer said: “The area is often used by dog walkers so there is a good chance that someone who may have been in the area witnessed this incident or saw these suspects in the area before or after.

“Anyone who may have any information about the people responsible is asked to contact police.” Contact Pc Spencer on 101.
