Don’t make us wait so long for next visit
DEDICATION OF FANS EVIDENT AS THEY SING ALONG TO HITS
THURSDAY night saw the longawaited return of the indie rock-pop band, Bombay Bicycle Club, to Leicester’s De Monfort Hall.
Before launching into the band’s latest single, Is It Real, lead singer, Jack Steadman, acknowledges this, saying: “It’s been ages since we were here Leicester, sorry about that”.
While researching, I was surprised to learn the band has a long history with the hall, first playing in 2009 outside at the now-defunct Summer Sundae festival.
The band are a wellestablished act and feature multiple hired hands in the form of a threepiece brass section, a guitarist and keyboardist and female vocalist, which enables them to recreate the larger musical compositions of their latest two albums, which are more experimental and poppy then their early indie rock efforts.
There were also four gigantic LED screens hoisted on to the rafters of the hall.
Just when I’m thinking to myself how friendly a following the band has, a fight breaks out to my left between a concertgoer and an opportunist thief attempting to steal his jacket.
Someone steps on my foot during the midst of it all and immediately

apologies. Perhaps it’s only the one rotten apple here. Such an incident is quickly forgotten, however, thanks to Bombay’s second half of the show featuring their most popular songs.
It’s when they play 10-year-old song Cancel On Me that I realise the true dedication of the fans here, with every word being sung back, despite struggling to see anybody in attendance who looked over the age of 25.
Bombay Bicycle Club delivered a fantastic set and this reviewer hopes that their next visit to the hall is sooner then the six years they’ve made us wait this time.
