TV chef Cyrus has left city restaurant Tandem
AWARD-WINNING chef Cyrus Todiwala, who was at the helm of city restaurant Tandem, has revealed to the Mercury he has now left the business, saying he became “disillusioned and disappointed” with the venture.
The restaurant was launched as a joint project between the celebrity chef and Leicester’s Raphael Hospitality.
The Mercury has contacted Raphael Hospitality for a comment.
Bombay-born and trained chef Cyrus has three restaurants in London: Café Spice Namasté, the longest-running BIB Gourmand restaurant in the Michelin Guide; Mr Todiwala’s Kitchen, at Lincoln Plaza London; and Mr Todiwala’s Kitchen at Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5.
Tandem was launched in October. Cyrus said he had met hundreds of people looking forward to seeing what the restaurant would bring to Leicester and he was sorry to disappoint them.
“Tandem – as I had envisaged to be a shining star in the Midlands – sadly left me disillusioned and disappointed at the direction it was taking and for me the only sensible way, regardless of the loss, was to exit,” he said.
“I am very sorry to let the people of Leicester down and I feel very sad this decision had to be made so early in the restaurant’s life.”
Cyrus, who is a deputy lieutenant of Greater London, has appeared on TV cookery shows, including Saturday Kitchen and Market Kitchen.
