Lorries and car in collision

-

THE A42 was closed for over 90 minutes following a crash involving three vehicles.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway, between Junctions 12 and 13, at 9.15pm on Tuesday.

The road was closed by the Highways Agency and police while the multi-lane collision was dealt with.

While traffic was diverted away from the road at Junction 10 northbound, motorists nearby at the time were trapped by the closure for over an hour before being released using a rolling road block.

It was reported that the queues stretched back several miles.

The initial report was of a crash involving a lorry and a car.

Emergency services were subsequently made aware of a second lorry in a nearby layby that had also been part of the collision.

The driver of the car was transferred to hospital with chest injuries, while the vehicles were all checked over by fire crews.

The road remained closed for the recovery of vehicles and the clearing of a spillage until 11.30pm.
