A PIZZA restaurant in Leicester’s Highcross has closed for good after going into administration.

Stonebaked Pizza Co – on the ground floor of the shopping centre – remained in darkness, with the shutters down, yesterday lunchtime.

Details of the restaurant have been removed from the Highcross website, and Stonebaked Pizza Co has been recorded as “permanently closed” on Google.

The restaurant opened in October 2014 and aimed to offer “pizza exactly the way you want it”.

They claimed pizzas were cooked “to perfection” in just 180 seconds.

Stonebaked Pizza Co is the latest Highcross eatery to close, following the sudden closure of Handmade Burger Co last week.

The burger joint was one of 18 branches to close after the business went into administration.

Other recent closures at Highcross have included clothing store Khaadi, which shut in September 2019, shoe shop Aldo, which closed in August 2019, and food outlet Spudulike, which also shut in August.

However, there are new openings on the horizon.

Shoe retailer Clarks is set to open a store in Highcross in April, following the closure of its branch in the Haymarket shopping centre.

Plus, Kitty Café Leicester is set to launch in the spring, and will have 30 cats for customers to fuss over.

Talking about the closure of Stonebaked Pizza Co, Jo Tallack, general manager at Highcross Leicester, told the Mercury: “We can confirm that after going into administration, Stonebaked Pizza Co has closed its unit in Highcross.

“We’ve introduced a number of fantastic food and drink destinations to Highcross over the past few years including Tamatanga and Mod Pizza.

“We’ve got some really exciting plans for the unit but in the meantime, there’s lots for customers to enjoy, including Treetop Adventure Golf, Social Climbing and Showcase Cinema de Lux.

“We’ll also shortly be welcoming feline-focused eatery Kitty Café to Highcross in the next few months.”

The Mercury has contacted Stonebaked Pizza Co for a comment regarding the closure.
