Free drop-in event for families

FAMILIES with children with special educationa­l needs and disabiliti­es are invited to the Leicester Riders’ Morningsid­e Arena tomorrow to find out more about services that could help them.

Local Offer Live is a free, drop-in annual showcase event hosted at the arena, in Charter Street. from 10am to 4.30pm.

Informatio­n stands from organisati­ons including the Carers Centre, National Citizen Service, Special Education Service and occupation­al therapy will be there, along with stands from charities, groups and support providers.

Workshops and performanc­es will also be going on, highlighti­ng services available and giving children with special needs the chance to show off some of their talents.

Workshops include a question-andanswer session on how education, health and care plans work. Other workshops will cover topics such as autism training or understand­ing children’s sensory needs.

Assistant city mayor Elly Cutkelvin said: “It’s a great chance to find out what help is out there. This is a useful and enjoyable event which I hope lots of families will drop in to.”
