THE driver of a bus that crashed into a house in Loughborough at the weekend – inadvertently leading to the discovery of a cannabis growing operation – was taken to hospital.

The single-decker bus operated by Kinch Bus/Trent Barton ended up embedded in the front bay window of the severely damaged rented semi-detached property at the corner of Alan Moss Road and the A6 Derby Road late on Saturday.

The bus company has revealed the driver was taken to hospital before being allowed home.

Two passengers on the bus were able to walk away from the badly damaged vehicle.

Police officers checked the home, following the collision between the bus and two cars shortly before 11pm, to make sure no-one inside had been hurt.

After receiving no reply, they forced entry to the property, where they found a number of cannabis plants growing and began an investigation into the illegal cultivation.

Police had been called to the scene following a report a bus had collided with a house.

Two cars – a blue Ford and a black Vauxhall Vectra – were also reported to have been involved in the collision.

It was reported that the driver of one of the cars had left the scene prior to police arriving.

A spokesman for Kinchbus said: “The bus that was involved in the incident was carrying two passengers who were both able to walk away, from the vehicle.

“Our driver was helped to get out of the bus by the emergency services and was treated at hospital before being allowed home.

“We are, of course, supporting the driver, who was not at fault, and wish him a quick recovery from his injuries.”

Police are continuing inquiries into the discovery of 72 cannabis plants in the house and circumstances of the collision.

No arrests have yet been made in either investigation.
