Builders hand out funding to causes

-

CHORISTERS and a church have been awarded cash by house builders.

Roots Community Singers, in Newbold, Coleorton, received £750 from Persimmon Homes North Midlands as part of the builder’s Community Champions initiative.

The choir holds regular concerts and events for the benefit of its members and frequently in support of good causes.

Chairman Julie Cooper said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes North Midlands for this amazing gesture.

“We need to raise about £3,000 to pay for a new PA system as our old one is often unreliable.

“The new equipment will enable us to deliver a much better sound experience and take on more performance invites to support local charities.”

Nadine O’Dowd, sales director for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “We are delighted to support Roots Community Singers, who we know will continue to make fantastic music for the benefit of the community.”

■■St John the Baptist Church, in Hugglescote, received a £250 donation from David Wilson Homes to go towards the renovation of its accessible facilities.

The donation from the firm’s Community Fund will be used to refurbish the disabled toilet at the church, furthering efforts to make it an inclusive community space as well as a place of worship.

The Rev Olwen Woolcock said: “We thank David Wilson for its donation.

“It will help us improve our facilities, so we can serve all members of the community.”

Rachael Harrison, sales director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to have made this donation to St John the Baptist Church to assist in making the church more accessible for all members of the community.”

■■A charity golf day arranged by David Wilson Homes East Midlands raised more than £7,400 for a children’s hospice in Walsall.

Ninety-five golfers, including David Wilson Homes’ employees, took part in the tournament at Willesley Park Golf Club in Ashby, to raise funds for Acorns Childrens’ Hospice.

The hospice is looking to reach a £2 million target to ensure the longterm delivery of specialist children’s care across the Black Country.

Vicki Rowles, head of fund-raising at Acorns, said: “We’re hugely grateful to David Wilson Homes.”
