-

A LEICESTERSHIRE man was arrested after disorder broke out following Leicester City’s defeat to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old was arrested outside Villa Park after the match.

After the final whistle, fans flocked onto the pitch.

West Midlands Police told BirminghamLive: “A 19-year-old man from Birmingham was arrested during the game on suspicion of assaulting two stewards and possession of cannabis.”

Police added: “A 19-year-old man from Leicestershire was arrested outside the ground and later charged with possession of cocaine and obstructing police.

“We have received no complaints of anyone being assaulted or injured but will be reviewing CCTV and making further inquiries.”

In a statement yesterday, police said the pitch invasion had been referred to the Football Association.

“The club and the FA will be looking into it,” West Midlands Police said.

Villa beat City 2-1 in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final following a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium earlier this month.
