A GRIEVING dad has been told the man who murdered his teenage son 16 years ago is to be released from jail.

Patrick Pakeerah said the Probation Service told him yesterday that the Parole Board has decided to sanction the release of Warren Leblanc, who murdered his son, Stefan, in Leicester in 2004.

The Parole Board met on January 27 to consider the release of Leblanc and had until tomorrow to reach a decision.

Mr Pakeerah does not want the killer – who was 17 at the time he murdered 14-year-old Stefan – to be released from jail until he apologises for his crime.

“To say I am disappointed is an understatement,” said Mr Pakeerah.

“I do not think he should be allowed to got free until he has apologised to me for killing my son.

“He has shown no remorse whatsoever. How can he be fit to be released back into society?”

Mr Pakeerah, a 57-year-old civil servant from Leicester, said: “I can lodge an appeal against this decision and I am going to. They can count on that.”

Leblanc lured his school friend Stefan, from Anstey, into woodland near his home at Stokes Wood Park, in New Parks, on February 25, 2004.

He inflicted more than 60 injuries on the boy with a claw hammer and a kitchen knife.

Leblanc, now 32, admitted murder and was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 13 years.

Patrick’s step-daughter, Jess Peck, has started a petition calling on the Government to force all murderers to apologise to the families of their victims before they are considered for parole.

Jess, 31, from Mountsorrel, launched the online campaign, Stefan’s Law, in memory of her step-brother, to try to get 100,000 signatures which would require the matter to be discussed in the

Houses of Parliament. “I am doing this for Stefan and for Patrick,” said Jess.

“But I am also doing this for all the families that will be in the same position as us,” she said.

“We have had a wonderful, loving boy taken from us in the most horrible fashion and yet the killer has never as much as said sorry.

Mr Pakeerah said: “I am proud of, and grateful to, Jess for starting this petition.

“I just hope people get behind it and get the 100,000 signatures to try to make this happen.”
