Unknown substance sprayed in man’s face

A MAN in his 50s was taken to hospital after an unknown substance was sprayed in his face yesterday.

The incident took place at 2.30pm on Tuesday in Barfoot Road, off Stonesby Avenue, Leicester.

A police spokeswoma­n said that a 15-year-old male was arrested in connection with the assault.

She said: “Police are investigat­ing a report of an assault

“A man in his 50s was approached by two people in the street before an unknown substance was sprayed in his face and he was punched and kicked.

“The man attended hospital for treatment to injuries which were not life-changing or life-threatenin­g and has since been discharged.

“A 15-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released under investigat­ion.

“Inquiries are ongoing into the incident, including identifyin­g what the substance is.

“It has been confirmed as not being acid-based.”

Gemma Louise said she saw eight police cars including unmarked vehicles and several fire engines parked just off of Stonesby Avenue.

She said: “I heard numerous sirens and emergency services vehicles flying past, which is normal around here.

“When I left to go on the school run to Wigston at 3pm, I stepped outside the gate and saw fire engines, undercover police cars and marked police cars everywhere, starting from outside the corner house in Barfoot Road, continuing up to just before the cemetery.

“They were also parked down Littlegart­h and Highgate.

“There didn’t appear to be any kind of accident or anyone being arrested when I walked past at 3pm.

“By the time I’d returned from school run at 3.35pm they’d all gone.”
