Town still has a very great need for hospital
FEILDING Palmer Hospital in Lutterworth has been part of the community for many years, used by so many people.
Now its future constantly remains uncertain, though with a town that has grown over the years, having access to the hospital is of greater importance than ever.
The hospital plays a vital part in many individuals’ lives and it’s crucial the town doesn’t lose this valuable service.
Health care professionals are able to provide support to locals who would have otherwise had to venture further afield.
There are also the very sick whose families require constant access to the establishment.
What would closure mean for them? Loved ones rehomed miles away? The additional worry of travelling back and forth when that time could be spent being there for their loved one?
Then, when medical practices close for bank holidays and there isn’t a doctor to see, where else is one expected to go?
So if one has an issue with their health and thinks a doctor is the best person to advise but it isn’t lifethreatening so calling the already overstretched ambulance service isn’t necessary, simply having an out-of-hours general practitioner based at the hospital shows everyone how much Lutterworth needs the establishment.
The public are in favour of keeping the hospital and need this muchneeded hospital to stay where it is.
Liberal Democrat councillor Martin Sarfas has been campaigning to keep the hospital open for a long time now and while the public can temporarily feel assured they’ve got access to the hospital, how long will it be before it finally closes its doors is anyone’s guess.
Raising awareness into why the town needs the hospital to remain open is just as important.
